Knee Osteoarthritis is a disease caused by the degeneration of the knee cartilage, both in terms of shape, structure, and weight bearing of the joint bones. When there is no cartilage covering, the bones collide with each other while bearing weight, causing knee pain, knee swelling, and joint stiffness, which will become more severe as time passes. The knee becomes deformed and it is impossible to perform daily activities normally. It is divided into 2 types:
1. Primary osteoarthritis, the cause of which is unknown, is a condition caused by the deterioration of the cartilage surface as the patient ages. It is related to older age, weight, female sex, and genetics.
2. Secondary osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease with a known cause, such as from work or playing sports, having an accident, injury to joints and tendons, chronic injury to the knee joint, having underlying diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, septic arthritis, endocrine diseases, etc.
